Cop meted 14 years for
slay of colleague

A Bacolod Regional Trial Court judge yesterday sentenced a policeman to 14 years and eight months imprisonment for killing his colleague, and ordered him to pay the heirs of his victim P1.6 million.
Bacolod RTC Branch 43 Judge Philadelfa Pagapong-Agraviador found PO3 Nicolas Tancinco Jr. guilty beyond reasonable doubt of the crime of homicide .
Information filed in court said Tancinco killed SPO3 Maximiano Zarsuelo III of Bacolod City with a .38 caliber revolver at VIP King’s Refreshment at Lizares Extension, Bacolod, on March 14, 1996.   |
Son of former
mayor, driver killed

A gamefowl breeder who was reported to be the son of a former mayor and his driver were both killed Saturday by two gunmen, whose identities have already been established by the police, in Murcia, Negros Occidental, Senior Inspector Norberto Barniso, town police chief, said yesterday.
Barniso, however, withheld the identities of the suspects, pending the filing of charges against them this week.
Investigation by the Murcia police showed that victims Benjamen Sola, 51, reported son of former Kabankalan Mayor Pablo Sola, and his driver, Arturo Naces, 28, were shot in the back by the two gunmen, while they were about to board a motorcycle, outside a videoke house in Purok Uno, Brgy. Minoyan, Murcia.   |
Court junks Tubillara
raps vs. Magno

Assisting Judge Manuel Cardinal of the Bago Regional Trial Court Branch 62 yesterday dismissed a verified protest filed by mayoral candidate Jilson Tubillara against San Enrique Mayor Mario Magno for forum-shopping.
Tubillara, in his verified protest before the Bago RTC Branch 62 had prayed for the manual recount of all votes cast in the contested cluster precincts of San Enrique for the position of municipal mayor in the May 13 polls.
Tubillara also filed a petition to declare nullity of proclamation with urgent prayer to suspend the effects of proclamation with the Commission on Elections on May 24 or three days after he filed his verified protest with the Bago RTC on May 21, the judge noted.   |
