Guv calls for ‘stronger resolve’
vs. illegal fishing in Hinigaran

Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. Saturday called on local officials in Hinigaran, Negros Occidental, for a stronger resolve to combat illegal fishing operations as he shared his experience in the campaign to preserve blue crabs as a sustainable source of income for marginal fisher folk, a press release from the Capitol said.

Speaking before a symposium of blue crabbers in Barangay Tagda, Marañon, he said fishermen should think beyond their day-to-day sustenance otherwise supply will later become a problem when there is nothing to harvest.

He singled out the need to return to sea egg-bearing (bukakahan) blue crabs, which carry with them at least 1 million eggs with the potential to become mature crabs according to a Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources study.

Internet on
PAL planes soon

Philippine Airlines will soon fit in all its B777 and Airbus A330-343 aircraft an inflight internet connection just like in its Boeing 777-300ER that flew from Manila to Vancouver on July 9.

In it website, PAL said passengers can avail themselves of the inflight connectivity and can make phone calls and browse the internet while on air which is made possible with the installation of the inflight connectivity hardware called GSMConnex.

PAL is the first commercial airline which was installed with the GSMConnex equipment supplied by TriaGnoSys, while OnAir is the supplier for the GSM and WiFi connection.
