BFAR allots P2-M
incentive to LGUs

A P2 million worth of projects await the first 100 local government units nationwide that could record a 100 percent registration of their fisherfolk, according to regional director Juan Albaladejo of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Eastern Visayas.

The nationwide Fisherfolk Registration that will kick off on Thursday is jointly facilitated by the National Statistical Coordination Board, Dept. of Interior and Local Government and BFAR.

Albaladejo said this effort seeks to come up with the figure of fisherfolk in the country, which currently is not updated.

He looked forward that in one year they would know the number of fisherfolk in the country.

The regional director underscored that it is important that the national government knows the statistics in the determination of the budget that should be allotted to the sector.

Meanwhile, in addition to incentives that will be given to the first 100 LGUs, the agriculture technician for fisheries will also receive P15 for every fisherfolk that they bring during the registration.

“We want to finish within a year and we ask LGUs and national government agencies to help us with this registration,” he said.

The registration here will start at 9 a.m. at the Tacloban Astrodome.

It is expected to be graced by Secretaries Proseso Alcala and Mar Roxas of the Agriculture and the Interior and Local Government departments, respectively.*PNA
