| Book reading day held
Grade four students of the Bacolod Christian Center and the Andres Bonifacio Elementary School I participated in the story reading sessions at SM City Bacolod in line with the National Children’s Book Reading Day observance recently, a press release from the mall said.
Dr. Marilyn Marañon and Josefa Puentevella read the stories “Hayan na si Kidlat!” by Russell Molina, and “Sandwich to the Moon” by Jamie Bauza of the Ateneo de Manila University. The former is a tale of Biboy, who can move as fast as lightning but is held back when he does not eat breakfast, that conveyed the importance of taking healthy meals regularly; and the other one about a village that thought of making the biggest, tallest and best sandwich, which encourages readers to keep dreaming and inspiring great ideas, the press release also said.
“Ang Arroz Caldo ni Lolo Waldo” by Becky Santos-Gerodias was also read by Jose Froilan Udarbe of the Banco de Oro and BDO Foundation, about the importance of money management.
Members of the Zonta Club of Bacolod, headed by Merle Lizares, also attended the activity, and donated new and old books to the “Donate-a-Book” campaign of the SM Foundation. Janalyn Navarro of the Department of Education Bacolod Division accepted the seed donation of books from SM Foundation and Zonta Club, and the DepEd Bacolod’s Library Hub will be the recipient of books that will be collected from mall goers at the end of the month.
SM malls have been celebrating the National Children’s Book Reading Day since 2009. This year’s event was held in partnership with the DepEd, the National Book Development Board, Vibal Publishing, BDO Foundation and SM Foundation, the press release added.*
