| ‘Drug pusher’ shot: cop
A suspected drug pusher was shot when he reportedly resisted arrest in Purok Kagaycay, Brgy. 2, Bacolod City, at about 3:45 a.m. Saturday.
Station 2 chief, Senior Insp. Jovil Sedel, said Erwin Antiporda, 43, of the purok, sustained a gunshot wound on his left leg and was brought to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.
Sedel said Senior Police Officer 1 Dante Escorpion and PO1 Ryan Lumogdang went to the purok to serve the warrant of arrest to Antiporda for violation of sections 5, 12, and 15 of Republic Act 9165, but he resisted arrest and tried to grab the service firearm of Lumogdang.
Sedel said Lumogdang accidentally shot Antiporda while he was trying to control the suspect. The two policemen also sustained injuries when the relatives of the suspect threw stones and bottles at them, he added.
Antiporda’s warrant of arrest was issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 52 Judge Anita Guanzon-Chua, who denied him bail for the sale of drugs, and set his bail at P40,000 and P120,000 for possession of drug paraphernalia and use of illegal drugs, respectively, police records show.*SGG back

Detainee attempts suicide
A suspect detained at the lock-up cell of Police Station 3 in Brgy. Mandalagan, Bacolod City, attempted to kill himself at about 5 a.m. Saturday.
Station 3 chief, Senior Insp. Dianne Grace Aquitania, identified the suspect as Anthony Espinas, 23, of Purok Welcome, Brgy. Lantad, in Silay City, Negros Occidental, who was earlier arrested for acts of lasciviousness charges.
Investigation showed that Espinas was panic-stricken inside the lock-up cell Friday night so the police allowed his mother, whose name was not disclosed, to sleep at the station and calm him down.
On Saturday morning, Espinas reportedly requested his mother to buy coffee but when she returned, she saw him hanging, and shouted for help. Desk officer, Police Officer 1 Jomar Paglumotan, opened the cell and cut the belt tied on Espinas neck, Aquitania said.
Espinas was not brought to the hospital because the volunteer team from 117 told the police he was in a stable condition and only needed rest, she added.
Aquitania said that Espinas was nabbed Wednesday and was charged for acts of lasciviousness by the Bacolod City Police Office Women and Children’s Complaints Desk Thursday.*SGG back
