The Negrenses for the Nation Movement and allied civil society groups are urging the Aquino administration and Congress to take decisive steps to abolish the present “pork barrel system” for the well being of the Filipino people, especially the poor, a press release from N4NM said yesterday.
Over the past week, the nation has been scandalized by the recent exposé and serious allegations of outrageous abuses in the past ten years of P10 billion and another P900 million of public funds revealed by whistle blowers involving the government Priority Development Assistance Fund and the Malampaya Gas Project Fund in Palawan, the press release said.
Aggravating the revelations were the alleged officials in the Senate and House of Representatives in transactions whereby public funds were released through fake non-government organizations, it said.
National media has reported that affidavits have been submitted by whistle blowers to the National Bureau of Investigation. Media reports have indicated action by the Department of Justice and Office of the Ombudsman to initiate appropriate investigations on these cases, the release said.
The N4NM strongly believes that the present PDAF raises serious allegations of questionable use by some officials in Congress, the executive and local governments, the release said.
The group called on the citizenry in Negros Occidental to join them in their campaign against the pork barrel funds.* back
