DepEd holds
training-workshop

A training-workshop on the “Indigenization of Curriculum Materials” will be held by the Department of Education Silay Division at the Sen. Jose C. Locsin Cultural and Civic Center in Silay City, Negros Occidental, today, a press release from the city said.

It is in line with the K to 12 curriculum for the integration of local resources to all learning areas in grades 1 and 2 in the elementary and grades 7 and 8 in the secondary levels of education. The use of local resources includes the collection of data, preparation of literature, interpretation of the subject through theater arts, storytelling, visual art and handicraft, the press release also said.

Teacher Marjorie Bastida said Silay Tourism officer Ver Pacete will be the resource speaker, and is expected to talk on historical events and local heroes, foods and products, topography, flora and fauna, indigenous people, local groups and talents, local games, values and beliefs, folktales and other beliefs, musical pieces, songs and instruments, and indigenous materials that reflect local tradition, the press release also said.

Pacete said teacher participants of the workshop will then have a guided tour to the Silay Museum that features colorful diorama, the collection of traje de Silay, important vestments and church articles, paintings on the works, life and death of Dr. Jose Rizal that are parts of the art collections of the late Sen. Jose Locsin, and pictures of the heritage houses of Silay identified by the National Historical Commission, the press release added.*

USLS to host reunion
of Manila-based alumni

The “Tipon Negrosallians” get-together program will be held by the University of St. La Salle Alumni Relations Office for alumni of USLS and St. Joseph School La Salle working or residing in Manila at the Glorietta 5 Pavilion in Makati City on September 28, a press release from the USLS said.

The change of venue from the Rockwell Tent City was made to accommodate the growing number of turnouts in past get-togethers. It is a brainchild of former Negros Occidental governor Daniel “Bitay” Lacson who learned that majority of the Negros Trade Fair’s patrons were Lasallians of varied batches and professions, the press release also said.

Lacson decided to allot one night of the week-long trade fair to honor fellow alumni who were also advocates of the fair.

For this year, the program will include the annual awarding of the Golden Jubilarians who were not able to fly in for the Foundation Week that was held recently at the USLS, updates on new advancements, academic programs, and infrastructure of the USLS and SJS-LS, including the new Integrated School Campus, and the awarding of alumni achievers, the press release also said.

The 7th gathering will be held in coordination with the University of St. La Salle Alumni Association, Manila Chapter, led by its president, Andrew Ramos, of IS Batch ’84, the press release added.*
