summit set Aug. 9

The Visayas Housing Summit of the Chamber of Real Estate and Builders’ Association will be held at the Bacolod Pavillon Resort Hotel and Restaurant from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on August 9, a press release from the group said.

The event, to be hosted by the Aklan, Capiz, Cebu, Iloilo and Negros Occidental chapters, will feature the modules on land titles of the LRA/Register of Deeds, housing finance and receivable financing of NHMFC and Pag-IBIG, regulations and standards of the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board, and the permits and licenses of the local government unit, the press release also said.

This is intended to update and raise awareness and participation of the stakeholders. Resource speakers from the local and national government agencies will discuss the subjects.

CREBA also intends to explore the issues and concerns in House Bill 3533, or a proposal to institute the National Land Use Policy of the Philippines and provide the implementing mechanisms.

The proposal was crafted to provide policies for sound land use and institutionalize land use planning as a mechanism for identifying, determining and evaluating alternative land use and allocation patterns to promote sustainable development, and for the proper sitting of development interventions. It will be discussed by former congressman and governor Rodolfo Valencia of Oriental Mindoro.

The Professional Regulatory Commission, through CREBA, has agreed to credit attendance at this summit to the Continuing Professional Education program for Licensed Real Estate practitioners, the partners of CREBA in the real estate industry, the press release also said.

Outstanding brgys,
nutrition scholars awarded

The 10 Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholars of 2012 were led by Julia Marquez of Brgy. Tangub, Ma. Leah Polidario of Brgy. 30 and Mary Grace Bulgado of Mandalagan, while the Outstanding Barangays with the Best Nutrition Program Implementation awards were given to Tangub, Granada and Brgy. 38, the press release also said.

Lourdes Lantin of Brgy. 25 and Isabelita Dizon of Sum-ag were also recognized as BNS Retirees for serving 17 and 21 years, respectively, at the event supported by the National Nutrition Council of the Department of Health.

Second grader Rovenier Rufin, won the first prize for the Prep to Grade 3 category of the poster-making contest, and fifth grader Jianne Therese Villalva in the grades 4-6 category, the press release also said.

In her message, Bacolod first lady Josefa Puentevella congratulated the winning barangays for doing a good job in promoting nutrition and its benefits to the community, and Mayor Monico Puentevella said nutrition information is an important part for barangay development, the press release also said.*

CENRO holds
People’s Day

A people’s day was held by the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office in Brgy. Recreo, Pontevedra town, Negros Occidental, recently, a press release from CENRO said.

The event highlighted the slogan of President Benigno Aquino III at his inaugural speech “Kayo ang Boss Ko (You Are My Boss)”, referring to Filipinos as his superiors, and to bring the services of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources closer to the people, the press release also said.

CENRO personnel, led by Edgardo Rostata, discussed with the residents of the barangay DENR rules and policies on the cutting or pruning of mangrove trees, as reported by a team of Municipal Agriculture Office, Provincial Environment Management Office and resident Memia Nobres.

He said the cutting and pruning of mangrove trees have been observed to be still negligible but, if not given attention, it will soon be extensive and affect the surrounding plantation, the press release said.

At the forum were foresters Catherine Balasa and Philip Lechoncito, John Odango of the LMS, barangay captain Armando Nobres, and municipal agriculturist Maria Luz Panes, the press release added.*
