LTFRB to meet with operators
on school transport services

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board in Region 6 is set to discuss with various transport sectors in Western Visayas the planned standard matrix of fees for school transport services, its Regional Director Romulo Bernardes, said yesterday.

Bernardes said they do not have an order yet from LTFRB main office on when they could start the discussion because the agency’s national office is yet to meet with different transport stakeholders on June 13 and 14.

He said the proposed standard fare matrix for school services was an offshoot of the complaints that LTFRB received from parents that there are school services that are asking for excessive fees.

Bernardes added that the agreement between some schools/parents and the operators of the services are complicated and needs to be studied further before actions could be taken.

There are no matrices of fees specified under the existing LTFRB Memorandum Circular on the guidelines governing school transport services all throughout the country, he said.

LTFRB chairman Winston Ginez in a press statement, said that the agency is more concerned about the safety and security of students that take school buses daily to reach their schools and homes.

To ensure that the school transport services are in good running condition, they are conducting inspections on these before giving the operators certificates of public convenience to operate.

LTFRB is also reminding school transport service operators to put a label on their vehicles for easy identification and the color set by the agency which is yellow should be strictly followed.*APN
