Don’t skip first day
of classes - DepEd

About 453,300 kindergarten to high school students are expected to troop back to public schools in Negros Occidental and Bacolod City today as classes for school year 2013-2014 start.

“Students must be present for the first day of classes today,” said Department of Education Regional Director Mildred Garay yesterday.

“Regular classes will start today, the day will not be spent cleaning classrooms,” she said.

Help fight drugs,
parents urged

The director of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Region 6 is seeking the cooperation of the parents to help them in their fight against prohibited drugs, particularly during the opening of classes.

PDEA regional director Ronnie Delicana said that although the marching orders of their national headquarters are to concentrate on high value targets, they will go out of their way to bring their campaign against illegal drugs down to the school level.

“We should not forget that our Philippine National Police is also getting ready for the school opening,” he said in an interview over DYRL

‘Evidence room
was ransacked’

Two court sheriffs forced open the evidence room at the Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office compound Friday and took the firearms seized from the ancestral house of Pulupandan Mayor Magdaleno Peña, Chief Inspector Ramonit Javier said yesterday.

Javier, who was relieved as provincial head of the PNP Crime Laboratory and Scene of the Crime Office of Negros Occidental Friday, said he filed a blotter report on the incident that took place at about 1:47 p.m. Friday, before Police Station 4 in Bacolod City.

He said the custodian of the evidence room was out of town and the sheriffs, acting on a writ of replevin to recover 76 firearms issued by Bacolod Regional Trial Court Judge Fernando Elumba, could not wait.
