Two water pumping
stations to shut down

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The Dumaguete City Water District said yesterday it will shut down two pumping stations for major repairs, following complaints of low water pressure and limited supply in various barangays.

DCWD manager Esperatu Dicen said the first to be shut down is Pumping Station No. 6 in barangay Camanjac, and once it resumes operations in two to three weeks, Pumping Station No. 8 in Brgy. Candau-ay, near the El Pueblo Genovivo Subdivision, will follow.

The DCWD pump technicians, headed by Roberto Ada, noted a number of holes in several column pipes at Pumping Station No. 6 due to corrosion, that resultedin the low discharge of water, Dicen said.

He added the technicians removed 22 column pipes from a depth of 144 meters underground to make sure that the problem is addressed.

Dicen had earlier denied insinuations that the low supply of water was caused by a depletion of groundwater resources.Pumping Station 6 was supposed to draw around 30 liters of water each second.

He said the pipes and other tools at Pumping Station 8 will have to be totally replaced to increase its capacity and address the low discharge of water in its service areas.

He said water flow will continue, although slow, when Pumping Station 8 is shut down.*JG
