2 Bacolod councilors take oaths
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

Re-elected Bacolod City Councilor Caesar Distrito and Councilor-elect Alex Paglumotan took their oaths of office Saturday in Barangay Singcang-Airport, Bacolod City, before more than a thousand residents and supporters of Grupo Progreso and the Right Direction Movement of Barangay Singcang-Airport.

Distrito took his oath before Brgy. Captain Rosinie Distrito of Brgy. Singcang, while Councilor and Association of Barangay Captains president, Mona Dia Jardin, administered the oath of Councilor-elect Alex Paglumotan.

Present during the ceremony were Mayor and Congressman-elect Evelio Leonardia, Vice Mayor-elect Greg Gasataya, barangay kagawads of Barangay Singcang-Airport, RDM officials and supporters, purok leaders, heads of several religious organizations, and families and relatives of the Distrito and Paglumotan.

Distrito said, "It was a sentimental but solemn oath-taking for numerous reasons. For one, it was done in the presence of almost 2,000 of my ‘ka-barangays’ in Barangay Singcang-Airport who made me number one in the two consecutive elections.”

He said another reason is that his oath-taking was done in the barangay and was administered by his brother, Rosinie Distrito, who is the Barangay Captain of Singcang-Airport, because he would like to emphasize that basic governance and public service are done at the barangay level.

“We should always see to it that services must be done in the grassroots level, instead of us staying within the comfort of our air-conditioned offices,” Councilor Distrito said.

He said he believes that the people should see and feel their presence in the barangays all the time," he added.

Meanwhile, Paglumotan said during his speech said that at the start of their term, the Grupo Progreso candidates who won in the last election, will work hard together with the support of the people of Bacolod.

Paglumotan added that they will show to others that Grupo Progreso is still strong and united and will do everything in their capacity to work for the betterment of the City.*CGS
