The two-day pre-registration of the Kalayaan Job Fair at the office of the Department of Labor and Employment-Negros Occidental that ended yesterday drew 1,225 job-seekers

Of that number, 527 are applicants for work vacancies being offered by local companies while the rest are aspiring to land jobs abroad, Provincial DOLE records showed.

The jobs-fair, sponsored by DOLE, Bacolod Public Employment Services Office, STI and ABS-CBN, will be on Wednesday at the Robinson’s Place-Bacolod fountain area, and there are of 6,268 vacancies for Negrenses being offered by 48 local and international companies.

SSS bares terms for retirees

The Social Security System yesterday announced its new guidelines on contribution payments of voluntary members aged 65 and above who lack the required 120 monthly SSS contributions mandated by law to qualify for retirement pensions.

SSS president and chief executive officer Emilio de Quiros Jr.  called on members who are 65 years old or over prior to April 1, 2013, but have not reached the required member contributions of 120 months to qualify for retirement pension, to continue paying the remaining months but they must first file an application on or before July 1, an SSS press release said.

"Members affected by the new policy must file an ‘Application for Voluntary Payment of Contributions for Members Aged 65 and Over’ within the prescribed period so they can complete their 120 contributions and be eligible for retirement pension," de Quiros said.

DOST offers training
for Negros machinists

The Department of Science and Technology in Negros Occidental through the its Metals Industry Research and Development Center is still accepting applicants to avail of its grant for a computer numerically controlled machinists program, DOST provincial director Allan Francis Dara-ug, said yesterday.

Daraug said those who qualify for the program will undergo a 52-day training on the basic, common, and core competencies of CNC and industry immersion at the office of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority in Talisay City, Negros Occidental.

He said the training is for free, and those eligible will receive P300 as daily allowance while on training.
