PNP intensifies drive
against illegal drugs

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

The illegal drugs problem in Dumaguete City is expected to rise with the opening of classes, police chief Supt. James Goforth said yesterday.

Police operations against the illegal drugs continue without let-up, in coordination with the local Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and other Philippine National Police units, Goforth also said.

In fact, there had been several drug-related apprehensions in the city but he could not give specific data.

Goforth said they continue their monitoring and surveillance of illegal drugs personalities in the city with the arrival of students returning to school as these are vulnerable to the sale and use of illegal drugs.

Goforth also said that the opening of classes in many schools this week was relatively peaceful.

Police personnel were deployed to man public assistance centers in the 29 schools in Dumaguete starting last Monday, he said.

Also, anti-bullying desks were set up in the schools to respond to campus offenders, he added.*JFP
