The Dumaguete City government is observing World Environment Day through the Environment and Natural Resources Office, and has lined up several activities on the theme “Think. Eat. Save.”
The theme is an anti-food waste and food loss campaign that encourages the public to become more aware of the environmental impact of food choices.
Armand Adanza of ENROsaid the theme also empowers one to make informed decisions, and reminds people to take part on our responsibilities concerning the environment impact of food production, a press release from the agency said.
Adanza, who is in charge of the activities, said the observance opened with a tree-planting on June 1, with around 150 tree and 50 bamboo seedlings planted along the Cantil-e dry creek by participants from the Cantil-e Elementary School, the military, police, and members of the Bureau of Fire Protection.
Other activities are the environmental compliance seminar held yesterday, the DENR Day on June 10, PIA-Negros Oriental forum, June 14; and the civic action day on June 15, that will involve a city-wide clean-up in all barangays, schools, businesses, government offices and residences.
June 22 will be Arbor Day, oratorical contest and poster-making contest, June 27; and a fun run and tree-planting activity in Barangay Camanjac on June 30.*RG
