Museo sang Bata marks
World Oceans Day
Today is World Oceans Day and the Museo Sang Bata Sa Negros in Sagay City, Negros Occidental, has been celebrating it with several activities since the last two weeks of May up to the first two weeks of June, museum executive director, Lilibeth Cordova, said yesterday.
Saturday last week, Museo Sang Bata released a juvenile Olive Ridley Turtle found in the coastal waters of Sagay. Eleven-year-old Victor Genuino was picked to release the turtle in the waters of Carbin Reef, Cordova said.
World Oceans Day is celebrated all over the world with student volunteers joining in coastal clean-ups, and recycling workshops. For this year, Museo Sang Bata will celebrate the event with an early morning coastal cleanup, film showing and sharing of experiences related to the ocean, Cordova said.
“The volunteers will also make giant promises to Mother Earth, like keeping our waters clean, saving energy. The giant promises will be written on big cardboard fishes,” she added.
The children from Old Sagay have started making their giant cardboard fishes and their promises for the ocean will be written today as part of World Oceans Day ceremonies before the coastal clean-up, she said.
She is urging the public to join them today at the Museo Sang Bata Sa Negros in Sagay City. Those interested may call 09173208918, she said.*
