for Bacolod’s diamond celebration
The “Bacolod City at 75: Remembering the Inspiring Legacy of Yesteryears and Nurturing Tomorrow’s Endeavors”, or BRILYANTE, will be launched at 3 p.m. today at Robinsons Place Bacolod, and will be kicked off by a painting exhibit, “A Diamond Year”, by two-year old Enzo Diamante and the Association of Negros Artists at 10 a.m.,
a press release from organizers said.
The organizations that formed the group last year are ANA, the Alliance of Tour Guides of Occidental Negros, Alliance of Negrense Tourism Stakeholders, Bacolod-Negros Occidental Federation for Information and Communications Technology, Spa Alliance of Negros Occidental, Association of Negros Producers and The Negros Museum, the press release said.
Bacolod councilor-elect Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, executive director of BNEFIT, said BRILYANTE was formed because 2013 is a significant year for Bacolod that is celebrating its 75th year as a city. “Brilyante na ang Bacolod! Ari Diri Tanan! Pagkaon, Lugar, Istorya, Kultura Kag Kasadyahan” (At 75, It’s All Here! Food, Places, History, Culture and Fun)”, the press release also said.

SJI mourns death of Su
The St. John’s Institute community and the Filipino-Chinese of Bacolod City said in a press release yesterday that they deeply mourn the demise of Msgr. John Su on June 16 at the age of 88.
Su was one of the founding fathers of SJI, or Hua Ming School, a premier learning institution in Bacolod City. Together with His Eminence, the late Jaime Cardinal Sin, he also established the Lorenzo Ruiz Mission Society, and was the founding rector of the seminary, the press release also said.
He was also responsible for the construction of various structures, like the Queen of Peace Church, the Mount of Beatitudes in Bacolod, and the San Lorenzo Missionary Institute in Guadalupe, Makati City.
Su was a disciplinarian and a man of vision, the press release said.
It added that, instead of flowers, the SJI community will appreciate donations to the Msgr. John Su Memorial Fund.* back to top

Free circumcision,
anti-dengue drive held
The free circumcision service of the Silay City Health Office recently was availed of by 1,227 boys, a press release from the city said.
Meanwhile, the city government, through the CHO, is giving out larvicidal powder, or kitikitiks, to the 16 barangays to prevent the spread of dengue cases and deaths, the press release added.
The Department of Health also reminded the public to observe the 4’oclock habit, that involves mapping out high risk areas in a locality, organizing teams that will undertake critical response activities, and establishing a system of communications for better coordination and sustained cooperation.
The 4 o’clock habit requires the back-to basics Stop, or to take control over mosquitoes, Look - to eliminate mosquito-breeding sites, and Listen - to instructions from authorities, community leaders, or supervisors for the synchronous implementation of the program, the press release also said.* back to top
Jail officers read
books to students
A “read-a-book” activity was held by officers of the San Carlos City Jail for kindergarten and grade 1 pupils of the Cong. Vicente Gustilo Sr. Memorial School and the Florentina Ledesma Elementary School in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental Monday, a press release from the SCCJ said.
It was in line with the Community Relations Service Month observance of the BJMP, and benefited 280 pupils, the press release added.* back to top
