‘Agri-tect' training held

The second training seminar on “Agritecture for Sustainable Habitat” was conducted by the United Architects of the Philippines-Mt. Kanla-on Chapter and the Agricultural Training Institute at the Peñalosa Farms in Victorias City, Negros Occidental recently, a press release from the UAP said.

It was held March 4-8 and participated in by 50 representatives from the Magsasaka Siyentista, UAP-MK, rural-based organizations, and ATI focal persons and architects from various regions, the press release also said.

ATI Center director Asterio Saliot gave the message at the opening program and emphasized the importance of the “marriage of agriculture and architecture”. Other speakers were Ramon Peñalosa of Magsasaka Siyentista; UAP officials Jorge Mission, Jose Generoso Mascardo and Nilo de Oca, Stephanie Peñalosa of MK, Sheryl Pacheco of La Consolacion College-Bacolod, and Wilmon Peñalosa of the Negros Occidental Provincial Environment Management Office.

Topics discussed included agri-preneurship, integrated and organic farming systems, farm tourism, environmental laws, basic review of architecture, climate adaptive architecture, and agritecture platform, best practices and application.

The participants were then grouped and presented various designs on farm tourism, that were evaluated by Felipe Jocson, Rafael Guerrero, de Oca UAP and Rogelio Aguilar, all of UAP, the press release added.*

Exhibits to
open in Bacolod

The 5th one-man solo exhibit of Bacolod artist Leopoldo Bautista will open at 5 p.m. on Thursday at the Museo Negrense De La Salle, University of St. La Salle in Bacolod City.

Titled “Spiritual Vision”, the exhibit of Bautista, a member of the Art Association of Bacolod-Negros, will run from March 14 to April 12.

Meanwhile, world-class brass sculptor Michael Cacnio will hold a one-man show titled “Milestone” from March 16 to April 16 at Charlie's Art Gallery, Italia Restaurant, at 23 rd and San Agustin streets in Bacolod City, a press release from the gallery said.

Cacnio, an Outstanding Young Men in the Philippines, or TOYM, awardee in 2006, is the first Filipino artist to be featured in a solo exhibit in the European Commission's headquarters in Berlaymont, Brussels in 2007.

He hails from Malabon and a graduate of the College of Fine Arts of the University of the Philippines-Diliman. Cacnio has also held several solo exhibits in the Philippines, New York, Singapore and Japan, the press release also said.*CGS

UNO-R honors Moises Padilla

Moises Padilla in Negros Occidental recently received a plaque of recognition from the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos for producing two achievers, a press release from the school said.

Fr. Louie Gabinete, vice president for Student Welfare, presented the plaque to Mayor Francisco Nazareno after UNO-Rians Louise Valerie Abaño and Daisy May Nonato placed 10 th in the December Nursing Licensure Examination, and was chosen as one of “The Outstanding Students” by JCI, respectively, the press release also said.

Abaño and Nonato, who also received the P&G Leadership Award, hail from Moises Padilla.

The school delegation was also welcomed by Sangguniang Bayan members Jose Edmund Odencio and Ariel Estos, and Department of Education District Supervisor Enedina Madrileño.

Nazareno said he was grateful for the recognition conferred by UNO-R, that also lauded the Fellowship Baptist School in Binalbagan, where Nonato finished her high school, the press release added.*

SSEAYP
application ongoing

Filipinos 18 to 30 years old as of April 1, 2013 are encouraged to apply for the Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Program, or SSEAYP, an annual youth cultural exchange program between ASEAN member countries and Japan, a press release from the National Youth Commission said.

The program, now on its 40 th year, aims for the continuous promotion of friendship and goodwill among young people of Southeast Asia and Japan, and is implemented in the Philippines by the NYC.

Commissioner Erwin Andaya, 40 th SSEAYP National Organizing Committee chair, said it is one way of honing the skills of the Filipino youth as the program provides them the opportunity to showcase their talents and become global ambassadors of goodwill, the press release also said.

Delegates embark on a 52-day voyage across Southeast Asia and Japan aboard the Japanese Ocean Liner Nippon Maru. The country program for the Philippines is from Dec. 6-9, 2013.
