Palaro preparations
80 percent complete

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

Preparations for the staging of the Palarong Pambansa 2013 in Negros Oriental on April 21 to 27 are 80 percent complete, with only minor restorations ongoing at the different billeting quarters and playing venues in the province.

Department of Education schools provincial superintendent Salustiano Jimenez said the facilities can already be used even with the final preparations and facelifts still needed to meet international standards, especially at the playing venues.

The technical committee members from various regions and the central office of DepEd had earlier met in the province to discuss the Palaro details, he added.

LTFRB warns buses
vs. election materials

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board in Region 7 warned operators of public utility buses that the Commission on Elections prohibits PUBs from being plastered with political campaign materials.

LTFRB 7 director Ahmed Cuizon said bus operators will be penalized by the Comelec if they allow candidates to place stickers, posters, or any form of campaign materials in their vehicles.

Cuizon said they can only hang streamers, or other campaign materials, on buses that are hired to ferry supporters or candidates during political rallies.

for ‘Sendong’ victims

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

Livelihood skills trainings will be offered to victims of tropical storm Sendong in Dumaguete City to boost their income generation, Fr. Burton Villarmente, Social Action Center director of the Diocese of Dumaguete, said yesterday.

Initially, the trainings will include sewing/dressmaking, and call center operations, in cooperation with the provincial Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, for typhoon victims who have relocated at the Caritas Village Shelter project in Barangay Bajumpandan, Dumaguete City.

The housing project, co-funded by the Catholic Church and the Dumaguete government, has two phases with 150 total housing units.
