18 teams join Driver’s Cup
basketball tourney in Silay

Eighteen teams are seeing action in the 5th Mayor Oti Driver’s Cup 2013 that opened Wednesday at Natalio G. Velez Sports and Cultural Center in Silay City.

Seeing action in the friendly basketball competition are public transport drivers belonging to the different drivers’ associations in Silay.

The participating teams are SSHATODA, SELTODA, FIVE BOYS, KAPUSOTODA, BERAÑO Blade, LATODA, SABATODA, SIPTDOC-MPC, UBELTODA, SUCIPTODA Selection, SUCIPTODA- A, SUCIPTODA Cooperative, IRAN BOYS (Sicad), SCOTDA (Sicad), A. SLASHERS (Sicad), MATAGOY WOLF (Sicad), AND SATODA DRYVS (Sicad), a press release from Silay City Hall said.

Mayor Jose “Oti” Montelibano opened the tournament and led the ceremonial toss along with Counclor Ireneo Celis Jr.

During the opening program, Pastor Tropper Roco led the invocation while Councilor Celis delivered the welcome message. Raul Mahinay of KAPUSOTODA led the oath of amateurism.

In his message to the teams, Mayor Montelibano said the tournament was organized to make the drivers develop the value of sportsmanship. He also encouraged them to cultivate and nurture the value of honesty, the press release said.

“Let us be an example to others by doing the right things as well as to be proud of being a Silaynon,” Montelibano said.

The tournament will run until April 10, 2013. Members of the technical committee include Mayor Montelibano as chairman, Vice-Mayor Mark Andrew Arthur Golez, vice-chairman, and OIC-City Administrator Noel Doloriac, Silay Sports Committee head Hector Gamboa, Alberto Andrada and Assistant Sports Coordinator Glenn Dacula as members.*
