Posters, tarps torn down
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

Political posters and tarpaulins bearing advertisements of candidates posted in various parts of Bacolod City were removed yesterday by the City Legal Office enforcement team.

Enforcement team leader Ceasar Beloria said they started removing illegal posters at the Bacolod Public Plaza, at Lacson-Rizal, Lacson-Burgos and Hilado streets, and at B.S. Aquino Drive.

Beloria said they also detached political posters and tarpaulins on posts in front of the Robinsons Place mall in Brgy. Mandalagan.

The jeepney that his men used was almost filled up with the seized tarpaulins, mostly owned by business establishments, he said.

Beloria also disclosed that most of the political posters they took down belonged to senatorial candidate Juan Castañer Ponce Enrile Jr., while others belonged to local candidates, although the start of the campaign for local elections will still be on March 30.

The enforcement team will continue the removal of political posters and tarpaulins today in other areas in Bacolod.

Beloria said that while politicians did not personally hang their posters, they should discipline their political leaders and supporters.

Business establishments should also take the initiative of removing their tarpaulins when their permits expire because some are already shredded and considered as eyesores, he added.*APN
