PNP relieves 3 cops
for ‘escorting' Peña

The police chief and two policemen of Pulupandan town in Negros Occidental were relieved yesterday for allegedly acting as escorts of Mayor Magdaleno Peña when he went to the Provincial Capitol Monday to challenge the chief of staff of the governor to a boxing match.

Police chief Senior Inspector Edcel Balibadlan , Police Officer 3 Ronald Palacios and PO2 Lelanie Lagoting were relieved pending investigation of media reports, including television footage, showing them accompanying the mayor, Senior Supt. Celestino Guara, Negros Occidental OIC police director, said.

Senior Inspector Anthony Grande has been named OIC Pulupandan police chief.moremoremore

Reflect on Christ,
officials urge

Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. and Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia yesterday called on Negrenses and Bacoleños to join the Christian world in reflecting on the death and resurrection of Christ this Holy Week.

The governor also called for prayers for credible and peaceful elections.

“The Lenten Season is an opportune time for reflection, a favorable moment that allows us to revisit our relationship with our Creator. We take on a journey, a spiritual one highlighted by fasting and praying as we await a big Christian celebration on Easter,” Marañon said.moremoremore

Binay arriving in
Silay today

Vice President Jejomar Binay and the Silay City government will lead the Housing and Urban Development Awarding Ceremony at the Natalio G. Velez Sports and Cultural Center in Silay City at 8:30 a.m. today, Silay Mayor Jose “Oti” Montelibao said yesterday.

About 3,000 persons from 26 local government units in Negros Occidental and their officials are expected at the affair, a press release from Silay City said.

Montelibano will give the welcome remarks, and Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. is expected to deliver a message. moremoremore
