Women's participation in wage employment in the non-agricultural sector has generally increased over time, showing improvement in the government's effort to address gender inequality, Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz, of the Department of Labor and Employment said in a press release.
Baldoz said the overall trend shows that the share of women participation in wage employment has been slightly increasing, indicating that the traditional role of women as homemakers has gradually changed.
Citing an update study of the Bureau of Labor and Employment Statistics focusing on the share of women in wage employment in the non-agricultural sector, Baldoz said the percent share of women to the total wage and salary workers in the non-agricultural sector consistently improved from 39.1 percent in 1997 to 41.9 percent in 2002.
