Degamo leading
race for governor
SAGARBARRIA FOR MAYOR

Re-electionist governor Roel Degamo of Partido Demokratiko Pilipino was leading the race for the top post in Negros Oriental against three other contenders, a partial unofficial tally as of 11:07 last night showed.

The results, representing 34.2 percent of the election returns in the province, or 368 of the 1,076 ERs as posted in the Rappler Mirror Server, shows Degamo with 76,340 votes, followed by Josy Limkaichong of Liberal Party, 54,154; Gary Teves of the Nationalist People's Coalition, 52,092; and independent candidate Samuel Torres, 402 votes.

For vice governor, Mark Macias of LP garnered 53,606 votes, followed by Henry Sojor of PDP, 50,472; and incumbent Apolinario Arnaiz Jr., NPC, 43,220.

Manual poll audit today

Three areas in Negros Oriental, one in each congressional district, will hold a random manual audit of election results today.

Negros Oriental Acting Provincial Elections Supervisor, Juvenal Tuale, said the areas to be covered are in Barangay Mabigo in Canlaon City for the first district, Hunop in Pamplona, second district; and Obat, Sta. Catalina, third district.

Mabigo (Poblacion) in Canlaon City has 6,117 registered voters; Obat, 1,397; and Hunop, 933 voters..

Soldier dies in fresh
encounter vs. rebels

A Philippine Army soldier was killed and another wounded after government troops clashed with suspected New People's Army rebels in Sta. Catalina town, Negros Oriental, at the height of the elections yesterday.

Initial reports from the Philippine Army's 79 th Infantry Battalion identified the fatality as Private First Class Aris De Emoy, and the injured soldier as PFC Anastacio Aloba Jr., who was hit in his left foot.

The Army said that a section of the Alpha Company of the 79 th IB, led by 1Lt. Alexander Robillos, was on combat patrol operations at around 11 a.m., when it encountered about 30 suspected rebels in Sitio Bongabong, Barangay Milagrosa in Sta. Catalina.
