Seven hundred forty-three inmates from the Negros Occidental Provincial Jail, the Bacolod City District Jail, Bacolod City District Jail Annex and Female Dormitory voted yesterday.
Provincial Jail Warden Chief Insp. Amelito Fuentes said 163 out of 422 inmates are registered voters and they were all able to cast their votes from 7 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.
Fuentes said COMELEC set up two special clustered precincts that were attended by six special Board of Election inspectors. After all the inmates had cast their votes, their ballots were brought to the Makilan Elementary School, he said.
At the Bacolod City District Jail, 351 of the 596 inmates who are registered voters were able to vote in four special clustered precincts, its Jail Warden, Chief Insp. Gilbert Peremne, said.
Peremne said the voting only started at 7 a.m. and ended at 1 p.m. after the 12 SBEIs from COMELEC arrived with the ballots.
He said that, after the voting, the BJMP personnel escorted the COMELEC personnel in bringing the ballots to the precincts, where the inmates are registered voters.
Meanwhile, the 167 inmates from the Bacolod District Jail annex in Brgy. Handumanan and the 62 inmates from the female jail dormitory, who are registered voters and they were all able to cast their votes yesterday.
District Jail annex Warden Chief Insp. Vicente Papelera, said there were three special clustered precincts installed in their area and nine SBEIs from COMELEC facilitated the voting process.
There were no reported untoward incidents during the voting by the inmates.
Inmates were allowed to vote for the first time in 2010 through a COMELEC resolution.*APN
