New faces, upset victories
noted in Neg.Or. elections

New faces and upset victories were recorded in the elections in Negros Oriental.

Partial unofficial results from the town and city board of canvassers, as of yesterday, showed that mayoralty and vice mayoralty bets who are related to each other are leading the race in three towns and a city.

In Amlan, incumbent mayor Bentham dela Cruz was reelected, with his brother, Gino dela Cruz, as the vice mayor-elect.

In Jimalalud in the first district, the new mayor is Hazel Billones, daughter of outgoing local chief executive Reynaldo Tuanda, who is now the vice mayor-elect.

In La Libertad, Mayor Lawrence Limkaichong was reelected mayor, with his nephew, Emmanuel Iway Jr. as vice mayor and whose father, Emmanuel Iway, is leading in the first district congressional race.

In Guihulngan City, a son and father tandemwon the elections, with Guido Reyes elected mayor and outgoing mayor Ernesto Reyes now the vice mayor.

Upset victories, meanwhile, were recorded in Bais City, with the defeat of come-backing mayor Hector Villanueva and vice mayor Luciano Benlota to Mercy Teves Goñi and Miguel Real, respectively.

Bayawan City incumbent mayor Rene Gaudiel lost to come-backing rival Gerry Saraña; Basay re-electionist mayor Dandelgus Abrio to former mayor Beda Cañamaque; Sta. Catalina re-electionist mayor Leon Lopezto challenger Nathaniel Electona; Valencia mayor Enrique Gonzales to former mayor Edgar Teves; and Sibulan incumbent mayor Marcela Bartoces lost to Emmanuel Diputado.

Majuyod re-electionist mayor Jose Baldado, considered a political kingpin in the town, also lost to Dr. Felix Sy, retired provincial hospital director.*JG
