The Department of Budget and Management has approved the hiring of more than 60,000 new teachers, and of the funds for teachers being redeployed to schools with shortages, its press release said yesterday.

Education Secretary Armin Luistro said they have made available 61,510 new teacher items for fiscal year 2013 as the DepEd keeps pace with demand for teachers on account of increasing enrolment in public elementary and secondary schools nationwide, including Negros Oriental, the press release also said.

The new teachers’ items and the provision of redeployment allowance are in line with the government’s continuing effort to rationalize teacher placement in all public schools, Luistro said.

Based on DepEd Order No. 23, series of 2013, teachers to be redeployed will receive a one-time redeployment allowance of P18,000. Only those who are coming from schools with excess teacher item and are being redeployed to areas with teacher shortage will receive the allowance, it added.

Heads of schools with excess teachers should prepare an inventory of teaching staff, information on the grade/year level being handled and subject being taught by the excess teacher and ranked in ascending order, the press release also said.

Any teacher should express willingness to be redeployed by writing a letter of intent to the division or city superintendent, and superintendents can identify teachers from the surplus list and may require them to be redeployed to schools with shortage, the press release added.*
