Son of boarding house owner
shot dead in Brgy Mansilingan

The son of a boarding house owner was shot dead by unidentified men for unknown reasons in Purok Paghida-et, Brgy. Mansilingan, in Bacolod City, at about 8:45 p.m. Sunday.

Station 7 Chief, Insp. Emmanuel Misajon said yesterday that Gibson Villanueva, who is in his 30s and a resident of Purok Paghidaet, sustained multiple wounds on his upper chest, back, left hand, and stomach, and was declared dead on arrival at the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center.

Investigation conducted by Senior Police Officer 1 Jim Augustus Velasco showed that the victim was watching television in his room, when unidentified suspects fired at him several times with what is believed to be a .9 mm caliber pistol.

Velasco said the room was near the road and only half of the gate was covered by grills so it was easy for the suspects to shoot the victim, as he was visible from outside.

Investigation also showed that two persons had been seen in the vicinity at about 10 a.m. and in the afternoon before the shooting, Velasco said.

Recovered from the crime scene were four empty shells of .9 mm caliber pistol and two slugs, Velasco said. They were turned over to the PNP Crime Laboratory for examination, he said.

No witness had surfaced to identify the suspects as of press time yesterday, Velasco added.*SHIELA G. GELERA

Driver of vehicle in hit-and-run
accident advised to surrender

Supt. Armando Tubongbanua of the City Police Office yesterday appealed to the public to help in the search for justice for the rice cake vendor, who was involved in an apparent hit-and-run incident Friday morning in Bacolod City.

Tubongbanua also appealed to the driver of the van who hit Angela Sorayda Sadiasa to surrender and answer for the crime he has committed for his peace of mind and also for the family of the victim.

Tubongbanua said that if the suspect had helped Sadiasa, 58, of Purok Rojas in Brgy. Tangub, Bacolod, after the accident, he could have saved her.

Sadiasa was hit by a canter while at Araneta Street in Bacolod, at about 4:45 a.m. Friday, and died minutes later at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, he said.

As for the delayed investigation, Tubongbanua said, there was a miscommunication, because there was a delay in reporting the incident to the authorities.

Senior Police Officer 1 Dennis Perma, chief investigator of the Bacolod City Police Traffic Management Unit, said they already have the copy of the tape from the closed-circuit television camera near the place of the accident. However, the video was not clear.*SGG

‘Thief’ arrested

A man was arrested by the police for allegedly stealing P16,000 in cash from a mini-bus passenger at about 1 p.m. yesterday at Magsaysay Street in Brgy. Taculing, Bacolod.

Senior Insp. Charles Gever, Station 8 chief, identified the suspect as Jesither Cuison, 37, of Brgy. Tabao in Valladolid town, Negros Occidental; and the victim as Ulysis Ponclara, 49, of San Enrique, Negros Occidental.

Investigation conducted by Police Officer 2 Reanan Langrio showed that three men boarded the mini-bus where Ponclara was, and sat beside him. When the vehicle approached Magsaysay Street, the three men alighted, and two rode another bus heading south, while Cuison boarded a bus going to the terminal in Lopez Jaena Street.

When Ponclara discovered his money gone, he sought the assistance of the conductor and chased the bus of Cuison, Langrio said.

The vehicle was intercepted by policemen in front of the Bacolod City Police Office, and they recovered 15 P1,000 bills and two P500 bills from Cuison, who was positively identified by Ponclara as one of the men who sat beside him, records show.

Cuison is now detained at the lock-up cell of Station 8, and theft charges were filed against him before the Bacolod City Prosecutor’s Office yesterday, Langrio added.*SGG
