Magno tells opponent: accept defeat
BY CARLA GOMEZ

San Enrique Mayor Mario Magno yesterday said his opponent, Jilson Tubillara, should be gentleman enough to accept defeat.

Magno (United Negros Alliance) was reelected with 6,277 votes, giving him a 20-vote lead over Tubillara (Nationalist People’s Coalition), who had 6,257 votes.

It is the right of Tubillara to protest but the automated election in San Enrique was credible, it is clear there was no cheating, Magno said.

The mayor said he is willing to work hand in hand with Tubillara, who, as a private citizen, may have ideas to help the people of San Enrique.

Tubillara said his lawyers will file a protest this week questioning the election returns in nine to 12 precincts.

If they count the ballots in even just one ballot box, I will win but, to be safe, we will include more precincts in the protest, Tubillara said.

He also said that the votes of 37 rejected ballots were not counted.*CPG
