P2M lost in fire
BY SHIELA GELERA

About P2 million worth of properties turned into ashes when fire hit an internet café and two offices at Lizares Street, Brgy. 40 in Bacolod City, at about 6:45 a.m. yesterday.

Fire Officer 3 Cornelio Silva of the City Bureau of Fire and Protection said, the fire that was electrical in nature, destroyed the Marby Internet Café and damaged the Cabalagnan and Daalco Offices.

Silva said, seven fire trucks from the BFP were dispatched to the area, and were assisted by those of the Amity and the Chinese Chamber fire volunteer brigades.

The fire was put out at about 7:34 a.m. and reached second alarm status, but there were no reported casualties or injuries, Silva said.

Investigation conducted by Silva and Fire Officer 2 Mark Stephen Trajeras, showed that the fire originated at the ceiling of Marby Internet Café and spread to nearby offices.

City fire marshal Chief Insp. Bartolome Beliran advised the public and those operating internet cafes to consider every single day, a fire hazard day, especially since classes are about to start.

Beliran said, owners of internet cafes should regularly inspect all electrical lines, avoid overloading, and have fire protection, depending on the type of the building they have.

As classes will start this June, the BFP will conduct inspections on schools, dormitories, boarding houses, and apartments for fire safety, Beliran added.*SGG
