Two die in electrocution,
fall from electricity post

One died and one survived electrocution in E.B. Magalona town while another was killed when he fell from a post in Victorias City, both in Negros Occidental, yesterday.

Senior Insp. Conrado Rances III, E.B. Magalona Police chief, identified the electrocuted fatality as Manuel Loquinio Jr., 16, of Brgy. Madalag. His older brother, Joemike Loquinio, 17, survived the incident.

The Loquinios were brought to the Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City, Rances said, but the younger Loquinio was declared dead on arrival. His brother has already been released from the hospital.

Investigation showed that, at about 6:30 a.m., the younger Loquinio accidentally touched a wet coconut tree that had a branch in contact with a live wire, and was electrocuted.

Meanwhile, Victorias City Police chief, Supt. Santiago Rapiz, said Jestoni Endrina, 27, of Hacienda Malogo, E.B. Magalona died after he fell from a 20-foot electricity post while installing the “fly arm” mounted on it, at Quezon Extension, Brgy. 5 in Victorias City, at around 9:30 a.m.

Endrina was brought to the Kaayong Lawas Clinic, then transferred to the Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City, then to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod, where he was declared dead on arrival, police records show.*SGG

9 Bacolod cops commended

Seven members of the Bacolod City Police Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group and two from Station 9 were conferred the Medalya ng Papuri (commendation medals) at the Camp Martin Delgado in Iloilo City recently.

CAIDSOTG chief, Senior Insp. Neil Exaltado, and Station 9 chief, Insp. Placido Gentoleo, received the medals in behalf of their men from Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz, director of the Police Regional Office in Western Visayas.

Exaltado said the medal was given in recognition of their efforts in arresting drug suspect Brian Sillar, 26, of San Mateo, Brgy. Banago in Bacolod, at about 10:45 a.m. on March 29.

Sillar was arrested after a brief chase at the boundary of Brgy. Abuanan, Bago City in Negros Occidental, and Brgy. Sum-ag, Bacolod.

Recovered from him were seven elongated heat-sealed plastic sachets of suspected shabu, an improvised tooter with visible traces of the banned substance, a cellphone and P80 in cash, police records show.*SGG

Man hurt in mishap

A machine shop operator was seriously injured when he was sideswiped by a mini bus near a gasoline station at Araneta Street, Brgy. Tangub, in Bacolod City, at about 5:40 p.m. Tuesday.

The victim was identified as Ronelo Tonato, 48, of Marapara Subdivision, Brgy. Bata in Bacolod City, by Traffic Management Unit chief investigator, Senior Police Officer 1 Dennis Perma.

Tonato sustained head injuries and was rushed to the intensive care unit of the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center, and later transferred to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, Perma said.

Investigation conducted by Police Officer 2 Regino Rex Eduardo, traffic investigator, showed that the Isuzu mini bus, with plate number FWN732, driven by Rodney Costales, 33, of Purok Riles, Brgy. Ma-ao, Bago City, Negros Occidental, was heading south of Araneta Street when it sideswiped Tonato, who was crossing the street.

Perma said, Tonato, who was jaywalking, was hit by the right side of the vehicle and fell, hitting his head on the pavement.

The driver and the mini bus were released yesterday, and the vehicle owner, whose name was not disclosed, was trying to make a settlement with the family of the victim yesterday, Perma added.*SGG
