Sagarbarria to prioritize
Rizal boulevard extension
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The construction of more state-of-the-art comfort rooms, extension of the Rizal Boulevard, more housing sites and diversion roads are among the priorities of Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria for Dumaguete City in the next three years.

He said the boulevard extension, or the Board Walk project, will resume with the P1 million financial assistance from Senator TJ Guingona. He added that the Philippine Ports Authority is expected to continue the project as part of its Port Zone, with a wave deflector, worth P23 million, expected to be constructed to connect the extended boulevard.

As to the 20-meter diversion road, Sagarbarria said the city government will allocate funds for payments of road-right-of-way concerns from Isugan in Bacong to Magatas in Sibulan, while an initial P50 million was allotted for land preparation and concreting of the route, particularly in Brgy. Bajumpandan.

Farmers urged to be vigilant
against coconut infestation
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The Philippine Coconut Authority in Negros Oriental is urging coconut farmers to be watchful and to immediately report the presence of pests called “cocolisap” in their plantations.

PCA provincial administrator Brendan Trasmonte said they have been coordinating with the research center in Albay province, and intensifying the monitoring and surveillance activities in all ports of entry to ensure that the coconut infestation in Quezon province does not occur in Negros Oriental.

He said the coconut scale insects are more dangerous and destructive than the brontispa infestation of coconut trees in Negros Oriental last year.

2 former rebels
get P100,000
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

Two more former members of the New People's Army in Negros Oriental each received P50,000 financial assistance from the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process recently.

The rebel returnees, whose identities were withheld, as requested, were the latest to avail of the livelihood assistance program of the government for those who have returned to the folds of the law.

OPAPP records show that 20 former rebels have been recipients of the livelihood assistance as part of the Comprehensive Local Integration Program since July 2012.
