PREPARES FOR ‘ZORAIDA’

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE & JUDY F. PARTLOW

The Negros Oriental provincial government is planning to send P4 million in Quick Response Fund to the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council to help victims of killer typhoon “Yolanda” even as it prepares for the landfall of “Zoraida”.

In yesterday’s meeting with the department heads and members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, Gov. Roel Degamo said he intends to send the P4 million financial assistance the soonest, and urged the provincial DRRMC, that he chairs, to formalize the recommendation for approval by SP.

Degamo said preparations have paid off with a zero casualty among Negrenses despite the strength of the typhoon, and called for continues prayers for those affected, especially in Eastern Visayas.

Consumers slam power outage
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

Electric consumers in Negros Oriental and other parts of Negros Island and the Visayas are complaining about what they call the inconsistent explanations about the power interruptions they experienced in the past few days due to killer typhoon “Yolanda”.

Many areas had already been re-energized yesterday, but the conflicting explanations of the utility firms started trending on social media sites, like Facebook and Twitter, and through text messaging.

The Energy Development Corporation-Green Core Geothermal Inc. had earlier admitted that after the onslaught of the Category 5 typhoon Friday, only one power plant was left working as the rest had to be repaired.

The donations are centralized at the Roman T. Yap ROTC Center at the Filomeno Cimafranca Ballfied of SU for better mobility of transportation options, and for direct transfer to the affected areas, the press release also said.

Partner establishments, businessmen and pharmacies are also urged to donate. For quick sorting and endorsement of the donations, a donor should indicate the intended area of the donation, segregate the goods and ensure that medicines bear expiry date not earlier than Feb. 2014. For cash donations, official receipts will be issued to the donor.
