A benefit concert, titled "Sagip Mo Bayan" drink-for-a cause was held by San Miguel Brewery Inc. November 14-15 at the Plazuela in Iloilo City to raise funds for its “Keep Hope Afloat” program for the victims of typhoon “Yolanda”, its press release said.

It featured popular bands Brownman Revival, Banda ni Kleggy, Callalily and Rivermaya, and the Panayanon Tribe, champion of the Dinagyang Festival 2013. Beer drinkers donated to the relief fund as ticket sales and P5 for each bottle sold were set aside for the benefit of the typhoon victims, the press release also said.

Also featured was the 14th National Beer Drinking Contest, where the Visayas team defended their title as the “fastest beer drinkers in the country” for the third year. The Sugar Barons of Silay bested five other teams nationwide with official time of 39.51 seconds, breaking last year's record of 43.37 seconds.

The Balintawak Heroes of GMA North was second and the South Luzon's Beer Wonders of Palawan, third.

Champion team members Marlon Pogosa, Jospeh Abayon, Rufino Hechanova, Carmelo Batadlan and Jic Catanghal also pledged to donate portion of their P500,000 cash prize to the typhoon victims, the press release also said.

The contest has become a much-awaited event because, at its core, it is about simple joys, togetherness, genuine friendships and samahan, Bobby Minosa, manager of SMB Trade Promo and Merchandising, said in the press release.*

IN VICTORIAS
Science laboratory
building inaugurated

It will take about one month before Victorias-Manapla-Cadiz Rural Electric Service Cooperative Inc. could fully restore power in its service areas, officer-in-charge Dan Pondevilla, said yesterday.

Pondevilla said they have to partially energized the cities of Escalante and San Carlos and the town of Toboso.

They were not able to fully repair their damage lines yet although they have been augmented by technical teams from the Central Negros Electric Cooperative and the Negros Occidental Electric Cooperative.

Their losses due to power outages are at P3 million a day, Pondevilla claimed.

On Tuesday last week, the towns of E.B. Magalona and Manapla and Victorias City were energized and electricity was restored in Cadiz and Sagay cities Wednesday.

The power outages are caused by the destruction of the 69-kilovolt line of the National Grid Power Corporation in their service areas at the height of super typhoon Yolanda, he said.*APN
