Remaining games in all levels of the NOPSSCEA basketball will resume this week after the change in leadership of the Sports Task Force committee and the appointment of Bobby Tee as the new basketball tournament manager.
Tee, president of the Basketball Coaches Association of Negros, replaced Dante Albao of West Negros University who quit his post after the resignation of former Sports TF chairman Anthony Carlo Agustin.
Tee met with acting sports committee chairman Rev. Edwin Madlangbayan, Friday, on the schedule of the remaining games, including the best-of-three championship series in men’s basketball between University of St. La Salle and University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos.
In a meeting Saturday with the college and high school coaches, Tee said they agreed to hold the Stingers vs. Rams game one at 5 p.m. this Friday, Nov. 22 at USLS Coliseum, and game two the next day, same time at the UNO-R gym. If necessary, Tee said, game three will be played on Sunday, Nov. 24 at La Salle Coliseum.
High school basketball games will also resume this week with Trinity Christian School and Mansilingan Christian Academy playing against each other on Wednesday, 5:30 p.m. at St. John’s Institute Activity Center, followed by the match-up between St. Benilde School and USLS-IS at 7 pm.
On Thursday, the SJI Blue Falcons will the Bacolod Tay Tung High School at 5:30 p.m. followed by the game between the UNO-R Junior Rams and the WNU Junior Mustangs at 7 p.m.
Tee said SJI has agreed to host the juniors basketball games this week after all the remaining matches scheduled to be played at WNU Gym were cancelled.
Schedule in elementary basketball, he said, will have to wait after the NOPSSCEA Sports Task Force has settled the pending protest from SJI, BTTHS, and TCS against USLS-IS.
He said the task force is scheduled to meet today with the elementary coaches to discuss the problem.
Meanwhile, referees who will officiate in the remaining games will also be under the supervision of Tee.
He said the coaches entrusted in him the responsibility to pick the referees and they will do away with the drawing of lots among 10 referees before the game.*NAB
