Province, PPBC share lead
in BCAN 35-Up basketball

Province of Negros Occidental beat LLZ Homi Warriors, 104-79, while Police Basketball Club prevailed over Talisay Basketball Athletic Club, 98-90, to share the top spot in the 35-Up Open Basketball Tournament at West Negros University Gym, Saturday, a press release from the organizers said.

The Capitol boys and the policemen are carrying a similar 3-1 win-loss record in this competition is sponsored by the Tourism Department of the Provincial Government and organized by the Basketball Coaches Association of Negros.

Also registering a win is the UNAC cages who turned back SeaOil, 86-59.

In taming the Warriors, the Capitol team got 19 points from former USLS Stinger Tommy Andren, while Bert Celis added 16 points, Hermi Derwill delivered 13 markers, former CSA-B Eagle Rex Bayer tallied scattered 11, and former WNU Mustang Hardy Laureno chipped in 10 points.

The Warriors had former Stinger Amit Teruel contributing 17 points, ex - Eagle Sarian Ordas hitting 12, while Rodel Canino and Boy Santiago combined for 22 points.

Former Negros Slasher and PBA player Leo Bat-og checked and failed to bail out the Warriors, the press release said.

PPBC, meanwhile, outscored TBAC, 26-18, in the opening quarter but the Talisaynons bounced back with a 23-15 spurt for a 41-all deadlock at halftime.

An even 21-point output from both teams in the third quarter pegged the score at 62-al going into the payoff period.

In the fourth quarter, PPBC got a lift from its gunners to outplay TBAC and get away with the victory.

The top six teams after the single round robin elimination will advance into the quarterfinals with No. 3 team playing against No. 6 and No. 4 team against No. 5.

The No. 1 team will play against the winner between 3 and 6, while No. 2 squad will clash against the victor between No. 4 and No. 5, the press release added.*
