Policeman killed
in San Carlos
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

A policeman assigned in intelligence work, was shot dead Saturday by suspects riding in tandem on a motorcycle at the national highway of Brgy. Palampas, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, police records show.

The victim, identified as SPO1 Agustin Hulleza Jr., a member of the Toboso Police Station, sustained a gunshot wound in the head. He was declared dead on arrival at the San Carlos District Hospital, Senior Supt. Milko Lirazan, provincial police director, said.

Investigations by the San Carlos police showed that Hulleza, who was a non-commissioned officer, was on his way to San Carlos from Toboso on board a motorcycle, when he was followed by two motorcycle-riding suspects, who shot him, in the back of his head.

Lirazan said they already have suspects, but refused to give details on them, pending follow-up operations.

Before his death, Hulleza, who was assigned at the Calatrava Police Station, before his transfer to the Toboso Police Station, was instrumental in the recovery of several firearms and the arrest of a barangay kagawad in Calatrava, several months agbo.

Lirazan said Hulleza was also actively involved in the monitoring and arrest of some suspects in illegal gambling, the sale of prohibited drugs, and in the campaign against the proliferation of loose firearms.

He said the killing of Hulleza could be related to his job.

Col. Jon Aying, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, said they are looking into the involvement of the Special Partisan Unit of the New People’s Army in the killing of Hulleza. * GPB
