SAN CARLOS CITY, Neg. Occ. – Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle yesterday said he prays that the motto adopted by Bishop Gerardo Alminaza will become a reality in the Diocese of San Carlos Borromeo and the whole country.
It is not enough to know His teachings and commandments, it is also important to live as Christ lived, the Cardinal stressed.
Tagle delivered the homily at the installation of Alminaza as the third bishop of the Diocese of San Carlos Borromeo at the Cathedral here attended by Papal Nuncio to the Philippines Giuseppe Pinto, Jaro Archbishop Angel Lagdameo, Capiz Archbishop Jose Advincula Jr., Lipa Archbishop Ramon Arguelles, 21 bishops, 150 priests and a crowd of 1,000.
The motto of Alminaza is “Sicut christus vivit”, the Latin for “As Christ lives”.
This should be the motto of every person to ensure that integrity, decency and honor is restored to the nation, Tagle said. The people have been suffering for so long because of a lack of this, he said.
“Let us pray, love and live like Jesus,” Tagle said, as he stressed the need to continue to help those who have suffered from recent earthquakes and super typhoon Yolanda.
The experts are telling us it will take a while for us to rebuild towns and cities struck down by different calamities, and it might even take longer to rebuild lives, but we should not underestimate the grace of God and the strength of the human spirit, Tagle said.
Tagle also stressed that, amid these natural disasters, there is a need to rebuild and strengthen the Church in faith, hope and love.
Tagle called on the faithful to be shepherds whose hearts are fashioned after the heart of God, who serve not out of personal gain but with the humble heart of a steward.*CPG back
