Three trading firms were charged by the Bureau of Customs before the Department of Justice yesterday for attempting to illegally bring into the country P16.5 million worth of agricultural products.
Named in one of the three smuggling attempt cases were Marcelo Gomez, owner of Silver Glade Enterprise, and his customs broker, Ian Christopher Miguel, for attempting to smuggle a 40-footer container van of garlic worth P2 million from China without the required import permit from the Bureau of Plant Industry.
The shipment arrived at the Port of Manila on Oct. 3.

The Board of Investments in the Philippines is planning to tap real estate developers to help build low-cost housing units for typhoon-ravaged areas of Samar and Leyte.
Dennis Miralles, director for Domestic Marketing Department Investment Promotions Group, who attended the opening of the 8th Organic Farmers Festival at the Negros Occidental Provincial Capitol Lagoon, said there is a move to direct the mass housing projects of real estate developers' to these areas so those displaced by the typhoon could start moving on with their lives.
He said BOI still needs to meet on the proposal.


iStore launches iPhone 5s, 5c
The iPhone 5s and 5c are now available at iStore, the first Apple Premium Reseller and Apple Authorized Service Provider appointed in the Philippines, a press release from the company said.
The iPhone 5s is Apple’s “most forward-thinking smart phone,” the first in the world to have 64-bit architecture for desk-top class speed in the palm of the hand.
It is the first phone to have Touch ID, which allows the user to safely unlock their phone using a fingerprint scan.
