Real estate agents
eyed for housing plan

The Board of Investments in the Philippines is planning to tap real estate developers to help build low-cost housing units for typhoon-ravaged areas of Samar and Leyte.

Dennis Miralles, director for Domestic Marketing Department Investment Promotions Group, who attended the opening of the 8th Organic Farmers Festival at the Negros Occidental Provincial Capitol Lagoon, said there is a move to direct the mass housing projects of real estate developers' to these areas so those displaced by the typhoon could start moving on with their lives.

He said BOI still needs to meet on the proposal.

Real estate developers are presently compelled to follow the BOI requirement of devoting 20 percent of their total housing cost to mass housing units in the Philippines before their project registration is approved.

Super typhoon Yolanda destroyed 80,000 houses in central Philippines, displacing more than 4 million people.*APN
