Inmates trained

Twenty-five inmates of the San Carlos Jail underwent a two-day seminar on Silk Screen Printing facilitated by the Cooperatives and City Livelihood Development Office, Jail warden, Senior Insp. Castle Masip, said yesterday.

Masip said the activity aims to equip the inmates with skills on silk screen printing that could be a source of livelihood although they are incarcerated.

He added that they envision the activity not only to be a temporary remedy but a lifetime opportunity for the inmates.

Aside from the silk screen printing skills training, the CLDO had also conducted seminars for pandan handicrafts, candle making and salabat (ginger tea) production last year, Masip said.

They have inmates who earn P300 as proceeds from the sale of each handicraft they made.

Some of their products are brought by the staff of the CLDO to trade fairs in Negros Occidental and other areas.*APN
