The Bureau of Internal Revenue in Dumaguete City is apprehensive about reaching its target revenue goal of P1,954,739,000 for 2013.
Richard Oquendo, OIC chief of the BIR Assessment Section, said that, as of October 31, actual collection recorded was P1,307,734,637.56, and, it is unlikely that the target can be reached by the year end, with only a few weeks remaining.
The Revenue District Office 79, based in Dumaguete City, that covers Negros Oriental and Siquijor, averages P125 million in monthly tax collection, and the target is “impossible” to reach, Oquendo said.
He said the target this year represents a 34.53 percent increase over last year’s goal of P1,452,962,000, that the RDO 79 had surpassed. For taxable year 2012, it collected P1,509,290,164.09, or an excess of P56,328,164.09 of the office’s target, Oquendo said.
He said the BIR Central Office had increased the target collection for 2013, based on a one-time large-scale transaction last year that made it surpass the goal in 2012.
Oquendo was referring to the sale of the Herminio Teves and Company Inc. to Universal Robina Corporation, for which P105.6 million in tax was paid to the RDO-79.
In past years, the local BIR had been cited for continuously exceeding its target and this could be the first time in years that it might not be able to reach its goal, Oquendo said.* JFP
