Give PDAF directly to LGUs,
Degamo, Sagarbarria say
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Gov. Roel Degamo of Negros Oriental and Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria of Dumaguete City yesterday said that the Priority Development Assistance Fund should be directly channeled to local government units.

They also welcomed the decision of the Supreme Court, that declared the controversial PDAF unconstitutional.

Degamo said the SC must be respected, and he believes that its decision will not have much effect on the provincial government. There are many ways to source funds for programs and projects, and money intended for LGUs does not have to be coursed through the congressmen since their function is legislation.

No shortage of basic
commodities in NegOr: DTI

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

The Department of Trade and Industry in Negros Oriental yesterday assured the public of ample supply of commodities throughout the Christmas season, despite the massive purchase of goods for relief distribution to victims of super-typhoon “Yolanda” in Leyte and other hard-hit areas.

Hermel Sun of the provincial DTI said his monitoring team is keeping a close watch on business establishments, particularly in Dumaguete City, to ensure that there is no shortage of basic necessities.

There are more than enough stocks for Christmas and New Year celebrations, he said. Business establishments had made sure they have supplies for consumers as early as November for the Halloween, until the city fiesta this week, he added.

BIR OFFICIAL SAYS
P1.95B collection
target impossible

The Bureau of Internal Revenue in Dumaguete City is apprehensive about reaching its target revenue goal of P1,954,739,000 for 2013.

Richard Oquendo, OIC chief of the BIR Assessment Section, said that, as of October 31, actual collection recorded was P1,307,734,637.56, and, it is unlikely that the target can be reached by the year end, with only a few weeks remaining.

The Revenue District Office 79, based in Dumaguete City, that covers Negros Oriental and Siquijor, averages P125 million in monthly tax collection, and the target is “impossible” to reach, Oquendo said.
