on Drug Prevention Education
Over 250 youth delegates from all over the country are expected to attend the 21st National Youth Congress on Drug Prevention Education that opened yesterday at the L’Fisher Hotel in Bacolod City, Bacolod Councilor Carlos Jose Lopez said.
The four-day activity is spearheaded by the Dangerous Drugs Board and the National Youth Commission and is co-sponsored by his office, Lopez said, adding that he bidded for this congress to be held in Bacolod as chairman of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Tourism.
What will be taken up during the congress is the education of the youth specifically to prevent them from engaging in illegal drugs, he said.
After the program, they plan to sign a manifesto, to be drafted by the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, with the Office of the Ombudsman, the Department of Interior and Local Government, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Philippine National Police, he also said.
There will be an open forum later, Lopez said and added that for Saturday they have invited resource persons like Assistant Secretary Amador Pabustan of the Dangerous Drugs Board, PDEA regional director Paul Ledesma, Assistant Secretary Juse Rafael Cruz of the National Youth Commission, Deputy Ombudsman for the Visayas Pelagio Apostol or his representative, and PNP Regional director Chief Supt.
