The death toll from super typhoon Yolanda in Western Visayas rose to197 yesterday, with 412 injured and 19 still missing, the Office of the Civil Defense 6 reported.
Of the 197 deaths, two were recorded in Negros Occidental that had 84 injured, 81 of them residents of Brgys. Tiglawigan and Sicaba in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.
The OCD 6, chaired by regional director Rosario Cabrera, placed the total damage at P6.4 billion, with P4,421,941,982 on infrastructure, fisheries – P1,334,220,441 and agricultural loses in the amount of P710,616,784.
Social Welfare and Development Secretary Dinky Soliman said Wednesday that survivors of Typhoon Yolanda, who are registered members of its Pantawid Pamilya program will receive cash grants on the first week of December.
To help rebuild their lives, Soliman said the government will waive the conditions under the present conditional cash transfer scheme.
Under the CCT program, beneficiaries get cash grants as long as they fulfill certain conditions. For survivors, Soliman said the cash grants will remain unconditional until the facilities of health and schools are up.
The OCD 6 also reported that the regional DSWD office has already extended P71,501,846 worth of relief goods to 264,198 families, with P7.7 million in Negros Occidental, and 130,500 in Bacolod City.
With more international relief organizations pouring more help to Western Visayas, Cabrera said she has coordinated with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines to provide additional space to serve as temporary area for unloading goods.*GPB back
