Romulo backs SC on PDAF
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Former Senator and Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto Romulo yesterday said he supports the Supreme Court decision declaring the pork barrel fund unconstitutional.

The SC is correct, it is just interpreting the Constitution, said Romulo, who accompanied his daughter Agriculture Undersecretary Bernadette Puyat-Romulo to the opening of 8th Negros Island Organic Farmers Festival that opened in Bacolod City yesterday morning.

Romulo said it is on record with the Department of Budget and Management that when he was senator, he asked not to be given his pork barrel share for four years.

He initially had channeled his pork barrel share through the Department of Agriculture and the Development Bank of the Philippines to be given directly to farmers, and not through non-government organizations, Romulo said.

But when he was told that there were many abuses in the use of the fund he decided to write the DBM not to allocate any for him, he added.

Meanwhile, Romulo said it is fantastic that so many countries are sending help to the super typhoon Yolanda-hit areas in the Philippines.

We have many friends abroad led by the United Nations, he said.*CPG
