City honors top citizens
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

The invited guest of honor, business tycoon Manny V. Pangilinan, did not show up, but the 75th (diamond) Charter Day Anniversary program of Bacolod City went on Saturday at the public plaza.

Pangilinan only sent his representatives, Rene Meily and Paul Gueco, and reportedly told Mayor Monico Puentevella that he could not come due to an equally important endeavor abroad.

Two outstanding city employees and 20 Bacoleños, who have excelled in their respective fields, were given recognition by Puentevella and the Sangguniang Panlungsod members and this was one of the highlights of Saturday’s 75th Charter Day Anniversary program.

Brgy 16 streetdance champion
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

Two decades since their last win in 1991, Brgy. 16 again brought home the championship trophy of the MassKara Festival 2013 street and arena barangay category dance competition at the Bacolod City Public Plaza yesterday.

Brgy. 16 with eagle-inspired costumes, headdresses and masks, bested 18 other competing barangays to win the trophy and P100,000 cash prize. They were also named best in mask and best in choreography.

Jesus Segundo Cabalcar, who was also the choreographer, mask and costume designer of last year’s champion Brgy. 17, said he used the concept of eagle in their costume design to show that Bacolod City is soaring high.moremoremore
