Volcanoes vs. Japan at
Panaad next year

The Philippine national rugby team, the Volcanoes, will play against Japan in a friendly match next year at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City.

In a press conference Saturday, Volcanoes’ co-captain Jake Letts said the Philippine Rugby Football Union is taking major steps towards introducing rugby among Filipino sports enthusiasts and bringing it to Bacolod next year is one of them.

He said the PRFU is working on the final details of the match and official announcements will be made soon.

18th FilOil Unigames
events start tomorrow

Competitions in the 18th Fil-oil Unigames 2013 will start tomorrow with the participating schools launching their bid for the title in 13 sporting events at different playing venues.

Drawing a big number of entries, games in men and women’s basketball, chess, football, lawn tennis, and volleyball will start tomorrow ahead of the other events.

Men’s basketball listed 28 participating schools, while the women’s side has nine teams; chess has 11 men’s teams and 10 in the women’s division; football has 15 men’s entries and 7 in women’s side; vying for top honors in lawn tennis are 10 men’s teams and 9 women’s squad; and 24 men’s squad are eyeing the title in men’s volleyball and 23 in women’s category.

Sanyo prevails over Panasonic
to register fourth straight win

Sanyo beat Panasonic, 79-65,  for  fourth straight win and stays unbeaten in the Sharp Cup - BUS Group Inter-Color Basketball Tournament at JGC gym at Goldenfields Commercial Complex, Bacolod City, a press release from  tournament organizers said.

Point guard John Odango led Sanyo with 22 points while Garry Garcia scored 16 markers, Hermie Derwill finished with 13 points and Ringo Lacanilao delivered 12 points for the win, while center Ed Basco, Rene Antones, Matt Rayo  and Arturo Tomaro focused on controlling both boards.

Panasonic, now at 1-3, got 28 points from Rey de Guzman but the rest of the team struggled. The team never recovered after trailing 46-62 and missed the services of ex-CSA-B Eagle Bandoy Aliermo, the press release said.
