Korean investment plans
include Cadiz power plant

BY CARLA GOMEZ

Part of the $1.7 billion in investments committed by Korean firms to the Philippines during the recent state visit of President Benigno Aquino III to South Korea, includes a 200-megawatt coal-powered power plant in Cadiz City, Mayor Patrick Escalante said yesterday.

Korea Electric Power Corp. pledged to put up three power plants in the Philippines, with the one for Cadiz City is set to cost P13 billion, he said.

The two other power plants will be built by KEPCO will be in Bataan and Surigao del Sur.

Escalante said the power plant in Cadiz City will be built near the port area in Brgy. Banquerohan.

The mayor said he does not know when construction of the power plant will start but it is expected to be sometime soon.

He said a public hearing has been conducted and the construction of the power plant has been approved by the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Cadiz.*CPG
