Ayala Museum to launch
‘Botong’ exhibit at USLS

Ayala Museum will launch a traveling exhibition on national artist Carlos “Botong” Francisco at Museo Negrense de La Salle, University of Saint La Salle in Bacolod City, from September 13 to October 8, a press release from the museum said.

Titled “Botong Francisco: A Nation Imagined,” the exhibition will feature 25 reproductions of Botong’s paintings from institutional and private collections. A film produced by the Ayala Foundation Inc. and directed by filmmaker Peque Gallaga on Botong’s vision and artistry will also be shown at the exhibit, the press release also said.

The initiative of the Arts and Culture Division of AFI is a traveling version of the museum exhibition held December 2012 to March 2013 in celebration of Botong’s centennial birth anniversary at Ayala Museum in Makati City, the press release said.

That exhibition showcased more than 40 of Botong’s paintings, and supplemented by a short film, that captured his large-scale works and murals commissioned for public buildings, and which had been selected for inclusion in the documentary category at the 2013 Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

The holding of the exhibition in regional locations is in line with AFI’s aim of bringing art beyond the museum to new audiences outside Manila, and is supported by the Ayala Corporation, Museo Negrense de La Salle, USLS, and the Javier Lacson family, the press release also said.
